Big News for Existing Customers of WebSphere Commerce Using Out Of The Box Search Functions


eGlobal Solutions announces yet another innovation for WebSphere Commerce. The Guided/Faceted Navigation Plug-In for WebSphere Commerce

Our search enhancement is completely built into WebSphere Commerce and as such has a whole host of features that are not only useful, but a direct result of being part of a bolt-on for WC.



The SitStay.com site, referenced in the case study, uses SEO optimized tiny URLs like, http://www.sitstay.com/dogs/salmon or http://www.sitstay.com/dogs/fido+fleece

Let's take an example of the Aussie Fossil eCommerce site (www.fossilaustralia.com.au), a nice site that uses the OOTB search(OOTB = Out Of The Box). In our Guided Search plug-in searches with plurals return the same results

http://www.sitstay.com/dogs/calendar

and

http://www.sitstay.com/dogs/calendars

both return 25 results.

Try the same on the Fossil search with "wallet" and "wallets" and note that in one case it returns 31 results and in another 6, limiting what customers are finding for essentially the same search term.

In addition, note the Search Suggestions at the top of the returned search page links noted above, these are based dynamically on what people are clicking through when they search for a specific keyword or keywords.

If you search for something and no results are returned, a list of popular searches are shown as in the following link, http://www.sitstay.com/dogs/fossil, these are added with an admin tool to allow for them to be dynamically changed and reorganized.

The short URLs into the search have been shown time and again to improve search ranking and as you will note are not redirects, but rather direct invocations into the WebSphere eCommerce engine. The admin interface is wired into the WebSphere Commerce Accelerator and allows for easy reporting on what people are searching for, when they are searching, and as importantly what they are not finding.
